adoption process

This little beauty was part of a breeder dump that was rescued by EnchantMutts early 2023. Of the six purebred aussies dumped - four made very fast turnarounds (have to love those aussies!) and have found their forever homes with wonderful families. CRICKET and OSKAR have taken more time to get them acclimated to a normal home and to feel safe. They spent much of their time in crates and were used for breeding with little human contact. But those days are over and they are getting the hang of being dogs.

CRICKET is a toy Australian Shepherd and weighs in at 13 lbs. We estimate her age to be about 6 - born in mid-2017. She is a red tri colored girl with a magnificent coat (now it is magnificent - horrible when she came in). She had bites on her muzzle and we suspect since she was the smallest - she was picked on. She has certainly gained confidence at her foster home and is usually right in the thick of things with all the other dogs - no matter their size. She has a bit of a presence about her - finally coming to be all that she can be. She has come a long way since her rescue and we are very proud of her. She now makes eye contact and has a little "dance" when she is looking for cuddles. She becomes a pretzel when she dances and is quite the beautiful little girl.

CRICKET is looking for a home that is patient and understanding of the fact that she had an awful start to life and is just starting to learn how to dog. She is very sweet and has never shown any aggression and loves to play with the other dogs, and if they get too rough - she knows how to tell them to stop. Often times - she is the start of a rough and tumble session. She has her besties and you will usually find her curled up in the midst of a few of them for naps.

CRICKET is house trained with a doggy door and is no longer crated at any time - totally trustworthy in the house and past the puppy stage. She loves a good toy and her chew bones and she is gaining some independence and loves to explore the yard. Quick to come when called, and usually the first one in line for meals, CRICKET has come a long way but needs a family to bring her the rest of the way. She probably would be scared of little people under ten but would love to flaunt her stuff to a family that doesn't expect their dogs to give a speech in front of an audience of more than ten.

CRICKET is current on her vaccinations, on heartworm prevention, been wormed, micro chipped and spayed. She is house trained with a dog door, crate trained, gets along great with other dogs and she needs to have another canine companion in her forever home. Cats are an unknown but a possibility with the right introductions of course. She still needs lots of training but when she goes for walks, she sticks close to her foster and enjoys the outing. She is shy and reserved and will never be waiting at the front door with a glass of beer for visitors but she will make an appearance, just so everyone can "oh" and "ah" about the little beauty queen.

If you are looking for an easy girl – swipe left… if you are looking for a girl that needs patience and understanding and is cute as all get out – please complete an application (at the adoption process button above) and submit to info@enchantmutts.org. Let us know why you think CRICKET might be a fit for your family – we’ll see if she agrees.

Sorry - CRICKET WILL NOT be adopted out of the state of New Mexico.
