Sweet, sweet Sophie. This beautiful Border Collie was saved in the nick of time from a high-kill shelter. She was picked up as a stray and was skin and bones. You could count her ribs, her back vertebrae and hips jutted straight up, and she weighed a whopping 28 lbs. She should be 40 lbs. easily. Even in her horrible condition, she oozed love and sweetness and patiently hoped for rescue. We suspect she might have been a breeder kicked to the curb when they tired of her. As she patiently waited for rescue, she is now patiently waiting for her forever home. She is going to be a great dog for a lucky someone or family.
But those days are over for this girl! She is gaining weight nicely, her fabulous personality is emerging and she takes delight in everything! Sophie is the perfect age of 3, and with the most delightful foxy face, she is quite beautiful. Her gorgeous black coat is spectacular and she has the most beautiful silver tip collar and highlights. From her little white feet to the tips of her perky ears (one up and one down), this girl is stunning.
Sophie's personality matches her looks perfectly! She is very sensitive and extremely smart. Her people are her life and her goal is to please. She learned all the basics very quickly and is looking to learn more. She is great with other dogs and is learning to play with toys, which she finds is great fun, often playing keep away from her foster friends. She is enjoying being in a house and having her own doggy bed, and she uses the doggie door to go outside and will grumble softly to show her content. I sometimes catch glimpses of a past heavy hand, but she is learning that those days are over for her. Cats are an unknown and she is crate-trained, but a crate is not necessary. She goes to work every day with her foster and is wonderful with people. She is a little shy at first but comes around very quickly.
Sophie wants to be where you are and becomes your shadow. She is quite the handsy girl, always gently reaching out her paw to touch you, to get a pat, to see if she can entice you to play or to just make sure you are there. She will also poke you with her nose. I think she is just making sure you're real. She will make a wonderful hiking or jogging companion as she is very athletic and has great energy, but not over the top. She is the perfect companion and loves to ride in the car, waiting patiently if you have errands and always happy to see you. She often crawls into the front driver's seat and just sits and looks out the front window (so never leave your keys in the car. She might just learn to start it up!).
Sophie will need a family that is familiar with working dogs, is active, includes their pets in family activities and who have time to spend with this wonderful girl. Another canine companion or a stay or work at home person is preferred. No children under seven please.
